Last week: A senior, Yurovsky won her second PIAA Class AAA girls tennis singles championship in a row, sweeping four victories at the Hershey Racquet Club. Yurovsky defeated Cristina Kaiser of Plymouth Whitemarsh, 6-1, 6-2, in the final Saturday.
The skinny: Yurovsky has won the past three WPIAL Class AAA singles titles. She is ranked No. 16 nationally in the girls 18 age group by the United States Tennis Association and No. 8 nationally by the website tennisrecruiting.net. She will play at the University of Michigan.
• You lost only 19 games over seven matches in winning the WPIAL and PIAA titles. Did you feel seriously challenged in any of those matches? I don’t know how to say this without being cocky … I don’t know, well, there were a few. … Let’s just say the competition in high school tennis is a lot different than my other tennis.
• WPIAL representatives won five out of the six PIAA championships this season. Is tennis in Western Pennsylvania really that strong? Yeah, I would say so. We have a lot of top players.
