LaWade and Fred win the Mixed Doubles A vinnys tennis league in a close match

LaWade Garris and Fred Crawford win finals vs Lorna Secrest and Vince Romito

If you add up the total number of games for this match, you’ll find it exactly even at 13 games each. However, Fred and Lawade won the 3rd set and that was the difference in a 6-3,1-6,6-4 match over Lorna Secrest and Vince Romito on an early Sunday morning at the Highland Park Tennis Courts.

Lorna and Vince were undefeated during the regular season and had beaten LaWade and Fred after they had won the first set in a tiebreaker.  The weather was just too much for Fred and La Wade and they had to retire.

It was one of the toughest matches in vinnystennisleague in the Pittsburgh area.

Quirine and Ester win the Women’s Doubles A in vinnystennisleague in Pittsburgh

Ester Hoogstaden and Quirine Okonkwo accept trophy

Last year, Ester Hoogstaden and Quirine Okonkwo compiled a 5-0 record beating every team in their division and continued into the semi-finals against Sally Martin and Lorna Secrest with a 6-4,6-0 record.

This year it wasn’t much different except they were 6-0 during the regular season and won for the 2nd time against the team of Lorna and Sally.  The game totals were the same, 6-3,6-1.

Felix Catlin and Vince Romito win Men’s Doubles A Championship

Vince Romito and Felix Catlin win the Men's Doubles A division

They were undefeated during the regular season and only lost 1 set throughout the season (Nick Celender and Chuck Meyers) on June 16th, but they still prevailed, 3-6,6-4,6-1 in a close match.

Felix and Vince beat Nick Rhodes and Yong Lee in a close match on September 15th by a score of 7-5,7-5.

Jim Quigley and Tony Wettick Win the Men’s 65+ Doubles

Jim Quigley,Tony Wettick,Norm Bloom,Bob Romito

After losing to Bob Romito and Norm Bloom in the 2010 Finals in a close match, 6-4,6-4, the team of Jim Quigley and Tony Wettick returned the favor by winning the 2011 65+ Doubles league and the finals.  They beat Bob and Norm this season, 6-4,6-2 while compiling a 6-2 regular season record.
